The K9 mounts a 155mm, 52 caliber barrel, with a range of 40km, and has been in service with the Korean Army since 1999. It has the ability to fire in MRSI mode (Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact), meaning it can fire 3 rounds in under 15 seconds (each with different trajectories) so that all rounds will impact at the same time.

It can be resupplied by the K10 automatic ammunition resupply vehicle, built on the K9 platform. The K10 carries a maximum load of 104 rounds and can be transferred across at 12 rounds a minute and is fully automated, meaning the crew can remain inside the vehicle during the process.

Hanwha Techwin’s K9 saw its first combat during the bombardment of Yeonpyeon 23 Nov 2010, where six South Korean howitzers were engaged by North Korean artillery. Three of the six managed to provide counter-battery fire.

It is in service with South Korea, with variants in service with India and Turkey. The chassis is used for the Polish Krab and the K9 is being considered by Denmark.
