SDC's Mini Blackbird SXGA Video Core revealed at Eurosatory 2018

Semi Conductor Devices (SDC) - a global leader in the development and manufacture of a wide range of cooled and uncooled infrared detectors and high-power laser diodes - is revealing the Mini Blackbird SXGA at EUROSATORY 2018.

The Mini Blackbird SXGA is an HD MWIR (Mid Wave InfraRed) Video Core optimized for low SWaP applications, such as small and tactical payloads for mini UASs and drones; ground-based and handheld surveillance systems, surveillance aircraft, and more.

“We are proud to unveil our latest development for the first time,” says Kobi Zaushnizer, VP Business Development & Marketing at SDC. “Dimensions and weight are critical when it comes to small applications like drones and handheld devices, and the Mini SXGA is the smallest in the world in its category of MWIR Detector with HD performance. The new module adds the necessary HD capabilities to these applications and actually results in higher system performance, enabling significant standoff operation for tactical platforms or long-range target engagement. Larger payloads carried by large platforms, such as search and rescue helicopters or intelligence aircraft, can also benefit from the low SWaP size of the product, because it takes up less volume in the payload and weighs much less than others on the market, enabling a combination of additional sensors and capabilities as needed."

Integrated with SCD's advanced pixel technology of XBn 10micron pixel size, the 1280x1024 SXGA format of the Mini Blackbird uses SCD’s HOT (High Operating Temperature) FPA technology at 150K, without compromising performance.

Features of the Mini Blackbird SXGA include: digital ROIC; compact and ruggedized Dewar; low SWaP Stirling cooler; integrated electronics with Non-Uniformity Correction (NUC); Bad-Pixel Replacement (BPR); digital zoom; graphic overlay support; spatial & temporal noise reduction.

"We have completed product development, and the Mini Blackbird SXGA has already been sold to a number of customers worldwide,” says Kobi.
