Russia has started the preliminary trials of new Bumerang 8x8 armoured fighting vehicle.
Russian Military-Industrial Company (a subsidiary of the Basic Element Group) has started the preliminary trials of new Bumerang (Boomerang) wheeled armoured fighting vehicle (AFV), according to the company`s director general Alexander Krasovitsky.

We have already begun the trials. More than 40 leading companies of Russian defense industry are developing the Bumerang AFV. Most of the work related to the trials and development is being done by our military-engineering center", Krasovitsky said.

He pointed out, that Bumerang was a new-generation armoured vehicle equipped with modern armament, passive and active protection systems, effective control system. It also had good maneuvrability and cross-country capacity, as well as protection level. Krasovitsky emphasized, that Bumerang was more protected, comparing to the Western analogues.

Moreover, several potential foreign countries have already revealed their interest to the new AFV, he added. "If we receive the appropriate state permission, we will be ready to offer the vehicle to foreign customers" , Krasovitsky said.

Bumerang AFV is developed to replace BTR-80 and BTR-82 armoured personnel carriers (APC) . It was unveiled for the first time to the public during the May 9 Victory Day military parade in Moscow in 2015. Two Bumerang modifications were revealed, namely, infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) and APC. Bumerang IFV has received remotely controlled weapon station (RCWS) with 30mm 2A42 gun, coaxial 7.62mm PKTM machinegun and 9M133 Kornet anti-tank guided missiles. The APC modification has got RCWS with 12.7mm Kord machinegun.
