| Russian Ministry of Defense to trial Ural Taifun-U 6x6 vehicle in Arctic | |||

Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) is planning to trial new mine-resistant ambush protected (MRAP) Taifun-U (Typhoon U) 6x6 vehicle developed by JSC Ural Automobile Works (UAW, a subsidiary of GAZ Group) in the Arctic region, according to the UAW official Sergey Suvorov.

"Taifun-U 6x6 is going to take part in the MoD`s trials of automobile vehicles in the Arctic region scheduled for February. The vehicle will be transferred (to the trials) as a part of automobile road-train. The common kilometrage is supposed to reach 6,000 km", Suvorov said.
Besides Taifun-U 6x6 variant. UAW on its own initiative is developing 4x4 modification of the vehicle. It is not planned to take part in the aformentioned trials in Arctic. The MoD will be testing KAMAZ-43502 Patrul (Patrol), Ural-63706 "Tornado-U", TREKOL-39294, TREKOL-39295 , military snowmobiles and several other vehicles in the Arctic conditions. During the trials, the vehicles` technical condition after expolitation in severe climatic conditions will be elaborately analysed. The MoD also intends to define the maximum allowable loads and the capabilities of the vehicles. The trials of pre-febricated inflatable shelters will also be conducted. The MoD`s Main Medical Administration servicemen will do several scientific researches.- |
