Iran unveils new Fajr 5 300mm MLRS Multiple Launch Rocket System using guided rockets.
Iranian defense industry unveils a new version of its Fajr 5 MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) using guided rocket. The previous version of the Fajr 5 was developed by Iran in 1990s. Iran’s Defense Ministry unveiled five new military products on Monday, February 6, 2017 including the new Fajr 5 MLRS.

Speaking to reporters at the event, Defense Minister Dehqan said the new weapons will significantly boost the military forces’ capabilities in individual combats and in the air defense sphere.

Hailing the country’s self-sufficiency in arms production, the minister noted that the total military products of the Defense Ministry have increased by 69 percent over the last three years.

The new Fajr 5 MLRS seems to be based on an Chinese-made 6x6 military truck chassis with a twin axle at the rear. The front of the vehicle is fitted with a single cab which provides space for the driver and two passengers.

Two other small containers are fitted to the rear of the crew cab to operate the rocket launcher station. Four ready to launch guided rockets are mounted on a rotating cradle assembly at the rear of a 6x6 truck chassis.

The new Iranian 300mm guided rocket seems very similar to the Chinese-made SY300 which can be fitted with a various types of warheads. It has a range from 40 to 130 km with a firing accuracy of 250m (INS) and 50 m (INS+GNSS).
