FN Herstal MAG 7.62mm machine guns will be mounted on the French Army's existing vehicles and will replace the existing AN F1 machine guns in the infantry units.

The contract includes the manufacture and supply of more than 10,000 FN MAG machine guns over a period of several years, and will also provide transformation kits to enable rapid conversion into dismounted weapons.

With 200,000 units manufactured and adopted by over 90 countries around the globe (all climate types), the FN MAG® machine gun is the unbeatable worldwide reference in its category in terms of accuracy and reliability.

The FN MAG™ primarily fires from mountings (on vehicles, aircraft, ships and boats, or on tripods) but is also used by troops on the ground.

On the request of the French army, the FN Herstal MAG machine gun has undergone some changes:

The French FN MAG 7.62 mm caliber machine gun is fitted with a removable bipod allowing quick mounting on combat vehicle.

A Picatinny rail is mounted on the right side of the gas receiver to provide mounting options for laser pointers, optics, bipods ,or any other picatinny rail based accessory.

A Picatinny rail is mounted on the top of the receiver.

A links and cartridge cases collector is fitted on the bottom of the weapon.

A polymer buttstock with butt plate assembly replaces the wooden buttstock.
