Infantry-led mounted and dismounted operations are in ever greater need of effective fire support. Peacekeeping, reconnaissance and counterinsurgency operations have the same need. This need must be met costeffectively using weapon systems that remain flexible and effective throughout their service lives. To meet this need, CMI Defence has developed the new Cockerill 3000 Series weapon system, which is showcased for the first time at IDEX 2015 in Abu Dhabi.

This unique system comprises a single, common core platform that supports a large variety of configurations and capabilities, from 25mm IFV to 105mm Direct Fire Support vehicle. The new Cockerill 3000 Series product is displayed at IDEX 2015 in two-man 30/40mm form (“Cockerill 3030/40”) on the General Dynamics European Land Systems Desert Piranha chassis.

The Cockerill 3000 Series is a unique new turret product from CMI Defence. Conceived to deliver unprecedented levels of value to the User, the Cockerill 3000 Series delivers cutting-edge day/night,stabilised, high-precision weapon system capability, is a single modular, common core platform that provides a single common heart to many products and variants, and can be readily configured and re configured as necessary through-life, according to role and operational demand. Its interchangeably accepts a wide range of weapon types and caliberres, from 25mm automatic cannon to 105mm NATO-standard tank gun. CMI's Cockerill 3000 Series offer significant reductions in whole-life cost and increases in operational flexibility. now sold in several different configurations and entering production.

In its standard form, the Cockerill 3000 Series provides full digital weapon stabilisation and computerised fire control to deliver very high target-hit probability. Thermal and day sights permit 24-hour operation whether the vehicle is static or moving. The User can select ballistic protection up to STANAG Level 5. In short, the Cockerill 3000 Series does everything that the modern soldier expects and more.

Depending upon configuration, the Cockerill 3000 Series may be integrated with wheeled or tracked chassis weighing as little as 20 tonnes. This means high tactical and strategic mobility without abandoning protection.

CMI Defence delivers total through-life support to the Cockerill 3000 Series product. This includes advanced training simulator systems (PC-based, Embedded and Mobile), tactical training centres, spare parts, training services, maintenance services, capability upgrades and more. The Cockerill 3000 Series can be acquired with complete confidence that it will remain effective throughout its service life.

The through-life cost of operating a military system is a major concern for all Customers. The Cockerill 3000 Series addresses this issue answer because it provides a full range of capability using a single basic platform. This offers substantial technical commonality, reduction in maintenance training costs, lower operator training costs, manning flexibility (common HMI), common systems upgrades, and a rapid reconfiguration (e.g. conversion from 105mm to 40mm).

     
     
The Cockerill 3000 Series is a radical departure from tradition. As such it offers the User lower costs, greater confidence and higher operational capability through-life.
 
In combination with the General Dynamics European Land Systems Desert Piranha chassis, the Cockerill 3000 Series offers a uniquely effective and flexible combat system. In this occasion, the Desert PIRANHA was the selected platform as it has successfully been trialed all over the Middle East. It is a specifically built variant of the latest PIRANHA 5 for the demanding climate and challenging terrain of the Middle East. The vehicle has been extensively tested under gruesome conditions in the desert and rocky mountain ranges. In addition, the Desert PIRANHA participated successfully in summer trials in the Middle East. The Desert PIRANHA benefits from a sophisticated drivetrain and hence provides outstanding mobility both off-road and on-road. The latter is becoming ever more important with the increasing number of missions in urban terrain. 

A modular and scalable protection concept enables quick protection up-graded against an ever changing arsenal of threats and hence always provides adequate protection. The interior of the Desert PIRANHA is among the highest in its category and offer plenty of space for multiple missions. Finally, the vehicles electronic architecture was developed with the focus on the easy and seamless integration of even complex systems and with an open and scalable infrastructure to cater for future systems. Thus the Desert PIRANHA has growth potential for the future inbuilt.

The Cockerill 3000 Series is sold, in production and will soon enter active service.
