In Egypt, the authorities are apparently ramping up their
scare tactics, with military fighter planes and helicopters
buzzing over the heads of anti-government protesters gathered
in Tahrir Square, this Sunday January 30, 2011. At the same
time, M1 Abrams are deployed in the streets of Cairo.

The Egyptian president ordered an intervention of the
army, which replaced the police force in the streets.
Mohammed Hosni Mubarak appointed a vice-president, a close
relation, the chief of intelligence services, Omar Soulaiman
that also comes from the army like the Egyptian President.
The Egyptian armed forces are now on the street in the
capital Cairo, with for the first time the use of tanks
M1 Abrams. By this deployment of force, the Egyptian President
wants to show his will to maintain his place to the head
of the government.
Military commanders have been rallying the troops, and
tanks are on the move throughout the city, but so far
the soldiers seem to be in no mood to disperse the demonstrations.
