Tunisia already bought Turkish military equipment, including 70 Ejder Yalcin armored vehicles from Nurol Makina. In 2014, it purchased 100 Kirpi armored vehicles.

In 2019, Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) and Baykar Makina were bidding to supply the Tunisian army with armed drones. In December, it was reported that TAI ended up being the sole contender for the armed UAV contract, with negotiations underway. On 17 December 2019, Aerovironment was awarded a USD $8.5 million contract to deliver eight drones with spares, which will be delivered by the end of May 2020. The United States had previously supplied ScanEagle UAVs to Tunisia.
