Saab Receives NLAW Anti-tank Weapon Order from Finnish Defence Forces
Defence and security company Saab has received an order from the Finnish Defence Forces for the NLAW anti-tank weapon. The contract value is approximately €32 million (approximately $36 million). In 2007 Finland ordered the NLAW, becoming the second export customer for the short range anti-tank weapon. Finland has now ordered an additional number of NLAWs.

The contract includes weapons and training equipment plus an option for additional orders. The contract value is approximately EUR32 million (approximately $36 million) and deliveries will take place during 2015.

“This is more proof of our customers’ trust in the system. With this order the anti-armour capability of the Finnish Defence Forces will be further enhanced. Using NLAW an individual soldier has the ability to take out any heavily-protected armoured vehicle, including a main battle tank, with a single shot,” says Görgen Johansson, head of Saab business area Dynamics.

“Experience shows that when it comes to effects and ease-of-use the NLAW anti-tank weapon is very well suited to the Finnish Defence Forces, particularly when it comes to new ways of taking on the battlefield,” says Anders Gardberg, managing director Saab International Finland Oy.

Saab’s NLAW (Next generation Light Anti-tank Weapon) is a shoulder-launched, anti-tank missile system that attacks the target from above. This makes it the most effective anti-tank weapon for dismounted light forces operating in any environment, including built-up areas. Originally developed for Sweden and Great Britain, it meets all requirements for a modern anti-tank weapon system for use during international operations as well as for national defence.
