Germany to reduce its KFOR troops
The German Ministry of Defence has decided to reduce the number of troops operating with KFOR. Given the political stability in Kosovo, Germany will reduce the number of soldiers to 1,350, from 1,850 that were deployed up to now.

The decision to reduce the number of troops, along with that surrounding the extension of the mandate, remains to be ratified by the German Bundestag.

Moreover, in case that the situation changes and NATO requires additional troops to be sent to Kosovo, Germany and Austria are ready to deploy their joint German-Austrian battalion. The unit is comprised of 710 soldiers, 524 of which are Germans. Its level of readiness for the second half of 2016 has been set to one week and to 14 days for the first half of 2017.
