Russian OmskTransMash company (a subsidiary of the Uralvagonzavod) has cleared its new MMK (Mostovoy Mekhanizirovanny Kompleks) mechanized bridge layer system for export, according to a source in Russian defense industry.

"The MMK bridge layer was originally developed for Russia`s Armed Forces. At the same time, such type of vehicles is in high demand at the global arms market. Russian engineer equipment is famous for its reliability and combat effectiveness. Hence, OmskTransMash has designed export modification of MMK and offers it to foreign customers," the source said.

The MMK system requires one hour to be fully assembled. It is intended for the support of tracked infantry fighting vehicles (IFV) and main battle tanks (MBT) with a maximum gross weight of up to 60 tones and wheeled fighting vehicles with a maximum axle load of 12.5 tones. Tracked vehicles can cross the bridge at speed up to 15 km/h and the wheeled ones - up to 20 km/h.

The MMK has a traffic capacity of 300 tracked or 400 wheeled vehicles per hour. One MMK set includes one bridge-assembling vehicle, four bridge sections, and one vehicle that carries end ramps and one bridge section. All parts of the MMK bridge layer are mounted on 8x8 Ural 532361-1012 wheeled trucks.
