The Kazakh
Ministry of Defence is responsible for providing financial
and political support to the armed forces, while defence
strategy and operational issues are under the Chief
of the General Staff. The total active manpower of
the Kazakhstan armed forces is around 50,000 personnel.
There is also a paramilitary force with 20,000 internal
security troops, and 12,000 border guards. The conscription
is maximum 31 months. In the future, all the army
will be professional.
The Land forces of the Kazakh army are around 45,000
soldiers with the structure:
2 Army corps with 1 armoured division, 2 mechanised
divisions, 1 independent mechanised brigade, 2 independent
airmobile brigades, 1 independent mechanised regiment
(Presidential Guard), and 2 artillery brigades.
