France hopes to sell second hands main battle tank Leclerc in Qatar.

 
 
France hopes to sell 40 second hands main battle tanks Leclerc in Qatar. In February, four officers of the Qatari Army were in France to test the Leclerc tank at the military training area Canjuers (France). During the demonstration, they tested the tank with real firing on the move, one of the strong capacities of the French main battle tank Leclerc.

In Qatar, Leclerc tank is not alone with a strong competition. The Germans recently sent there their last model of Leopard 2A7. Americans, Russians, Ukrainians, South-Koreans are on the way to propose their tank.

Qatar wishes to modernize its Army, of the size of a brigade. The Qatar is equipped with old main battle tank AMX-30 and armoured infantry fighting vehicle AMX-10P. For the replacement of the AMX-10P, Qataris were also received a proposal with the French VBCI.

On the 406 Leclerc tanks delivered to the French Army, around fifty are today available to be sold in second hands. They are the first built version now stored, even if some of them are use for spare parts for the maintenance of the latest models.

These tanks could be upgraded and modernized according to the wishes of the customer.

The Leclerc tank had only one foreign customer, the United Arab Emirates bought 400 Leclerc tanks in 1995.
