The director of Israel's missile defense organization Yair Ramati “visited lawmakers and aides to the congressional defense committees on February 2 and 3 to outline the case for more money and thank them for past assistance.”

A report revealed that Ramati’s proposal included $250 million to start production of the David’s Sling system, in addition to Obama’s $37 million request for development. Another $35 million Ramati requested for the initial production of Arrow 3, in addition to the $55.7 million the US administration is seeking for development.

David Sling is an advanced multi-mission, multi-platform interceptor designed for insertion into integrated air and missile defense systems. David Sling is employable in a variety of engagement scenarios that combine established ground, sea and air-based sensors. David Sling is compatibility with established canister and rail launchers offers maximum operational and deployment flexibility. Stunner’s fire-and-forget concept of operation requires minimal cueing from sensor resources to ensure rate of fire, even during saturation attacks.

Last year, the Israeli government agreed to spend more than half the funds provided by the Pentagon for the Iron Dome in the US by this year. Until recently, the missile system was been built solely in Israel by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd.

The Israeli military industry is developing a five-part air defense system, with different systems targeting different types of projectiles. The Arrow 2 and Iron Dome are already operational, but only Iron Dome, used extensively during the recent Operation Protective Edge, has been used in combat.
