French Army takes delivery of first batch of 400 HK416F assault rifles to replace old FAMAS.
Today, May 3, 2017, the French DGA (Defense Procurement Agency) has taken the delivery of first batch of 400 new HK416F 5.56mm assault rifles. The HK416F will replace the French Army's FAMAS bullpup assault rifles, which first entered service in 1979.

The procurement for the replacement of the standard assault rifle of the French Army was launched in May 2014. In September 2016, the French DGA has announced that the German-made Heckler & Koch HK416F has been selected as the next generation of assault rifle for the French armed forces. France's military programming law (LPM), calls for the delivery of 102,000 new service rifles by 2019.

French Army has also ordered 10.767 grenade launcher (HK2969F) in the calibre of 44 mm x 46, as well as accessories, ammunition, various components and support services for 15 years.

The HK416F will be delivered in two variants, long barrel for combat units and short barrel for the other units for the French army , air and naval forces. Some of the HK416F will be fitted with a 40mm grenade launcher HK269F mounted under the handguard also manufactured by HK.

The HK416 in various configurations is in service with many special forces around the world. In addition to Norway, France is now introducing the HK416 as the standard assault rifle for its Armed Forces.
