This Centauro 155/39 artillery system is being developed by Iveco and OTO-Melara. This new self-propelled howitzer is intended to operate in the medium Italian Army brigades alongside Centauro tank destroyers, Freccia infantry fighting vehicles, and associated combat vehicles based on 8x8 wheeled chassis.

The Centauro 155/39 artillery system is based on a modified Centauro wheeled tank destroyer chassis.

The Centauro 155/39 is wheeled self-propelled howitzer characterized by high tactical and strategic mobility, elevated agility, rapid deployability, high survivability. It can provide fire support by means of an Ultra Light 155/39 mm caliber equipped with an automatic loading system for ammunition and propelling charges that can be operated at any elevation and can use both NATO standard and VULCANO guided ammunition.

The Centauro 155 requires less than 3 minutes to be deployed and ready for action and only 1 minute to abandon the scene after the intervention.

It represents the most modern answer to the need of the Digitized Warfare to systematically increase its capabilities in order to face more efficaciously the new scenarios represented by the typical Operations Other Than War (OOTW) asymmetric situations.
