PIAP unveils its new Fenix lightweight reconnaissance robot at MSPO 2015
At MSPO 2015, the Polish company PIAP unveils a new lightweight reconnaissance robot: the Fenix. Thanks 'o low weight (15 kg) and high speed (10 km/h), it can operate for up to 6 hours. Day and night cameras (infrared, night vision) mounted on the robot’s mobile base allow to conduct observations around the clock.

Excellent field properties of PIAP FENIX robot (track-wheels chassis with moveable front flippers) ensure easy movement on hardened road surface, dirt roads, pathless tracts and in urban areas.

PIAP Fenix robot is easy to transport – owing to its small size and low weight it can be carried in a backpack. The robot, depending on its equipment, can serve either for surveillance, lifting and neutralization of dangerous loads or for transport of sabotage measures.

The drive system of the Fenix allows it to overcome obstacles such as stairs or curbs. The robot’s wheels and flippers are easily removed, which allows for a reduction of the robot’s overall dimensions. It is fitted with flexible, dirt proof tensioning system. The position of front flippers can be viewed on the control panel.

The Fenix is fitted with video, audio and communication systems. The cameras consist of two High Definition colour cameras with wide angle lens, equipped with visible light or IR illuminators and optional heaters to prevent misting. It can be optionally fitted with rotating front camera with rotation range of + -120 degrees, which enables inspection under vehicles and observation of the manipulator or front support. The audio system consists of integrated microphones and speaker can be used as a negotiation kit. The Fenix is equipped with digital communication system, operating in the frequency range chosen by the customer. Antennae on flexible joints allow to conduct inspections under a car, etc.

By default, the manipulator of the robot, which has a maximum lift capacity of 1.5kg, is equipped with a gripper camera mounted onto the Picatinny rail on the gripper. High Definition Camera equipped with visible light or IR illuminators and optional heaters to prevent misting are also available.

The Fenix is proposed with several optional equipment which can be mounted on Picatinny rails or on mounting holes of the mobile base or manipulator, such as advanced manipulator (6 degrees of freedom), PTZ camera heads equipped with night vision and thermal imaging, Directional microphone, Additional illuminators, CBRN sensors, Explosives trace detector, and Additional batteries and chargers.
