MSPO 2022: Polish army Rosomak IFV to benefit from mid-life update programme

Rosomak (Wolverine) 8x8 IFV, in spite of its already long service life in the Polish armed forces, will remain ‘’on duty’’ for a couple more years but, in view of remaining up-to-date, will undergo an MLU (Mid-Life Update) programme designed by PGZ.

The package of MLU modernizations will be left to the army’s decision, according to the version of the vehicle and its missions. The MLU programme is divided into three packages (levels). Each consists of different components (options) that can be individually selected for a specific vehicle (variant), depending on current or projected needs.

The Rosomak is an 8x8 armored vehicle based on the AMV (Armored Modular Vehicle) designed and manufactured by the Finnish company Patria. The Rosomak was tailored according to requests of the Polish army and locally manufactured by the company Rosomak S.A.

Remote controlled system 30

This weapon system is intended for infantry support thanks to its capability to destroy a rather wide range of armored and unarmored targets. The project commissioned by the Polish Ministry of Defense imposes the following characteristics: bi-axial stabilization of the gun and coaxial machine gun, independently bi-axially stabilized observation devices for both the vehicle commander and the gunner, an additional observation device for conducting combat operations in emergency mode (downgraded mode) together with a wide-angle periscope, hunter-killer and killer-killer modes, OBRA-3 SSP-1 Laser Radiation Detection system integrated with 8 smoke grenade launchers, FONET internal communication system, the ability to fire in automatic and emergency modes, multipurpose fire control system supporting programmable ammunition (ABM).

Rate of fire: 200 rounds/minute for high-explosive rounds, or120 rounds/minute for ABM. A double Spike anti-tank gun-missile (ATGM) system must be foreseen.

On December 22, 2021, Army Recognition reported that the consortium responsible for the ZSSW-30 unmanned turret had received an invitation to negotiate the deliveries of this system, primarily designed to be fitted onto the Rosomak APCs.
