Nammo awarded contract to supply M72 Lightweight Assault Weapon variants to the U.S. DoD.

Nammo Talley, is the only manufacturer of man-portable, unguided, shoulder launched munitions (SLM) in the United States. The company has produced over 350,000 LAWs for U.S. and allied military forces. Program management and final assembly of the energetic rounds will occur at Nammo Talley’s headquarters in Mesa, Arizona, while inert launcher fabrication will take place primarily in Davidsville, Pennsylvania.

It also sustains the vital ammunition industrial supply base in a period of decreasing volume.” said Chad Parkhill, Nammo Talley’s Product Line Director for SLM. “We’re ready and proud to provide U.S. and allied forces with what we believe are the lightest, most capable and cost-effective shoulder fired weapons in the world.”

The M72 LAW is issued as a round of ammunition. It contains a nonadjustable propelling charge and a rocket. Every M72 LAW has an integral high-explosive antitank (HEAT) warhead. The warhead is in the rocket's head (or body) section. The fuze and booster are in the rocket's closure section. The propellant, its igniter, and the fin assembly are in the rocket's motor. Although the M72 LAW is mainly used as an antiarmor weapon, it may be used with limited success against secondary targets such as gun emplacements, pillboxes, buildings, or light vehicles.
