The tests of the 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV self-propelled artillery system proceed as scheduled without slippage, Alexander Romanovsky, adviser to Director General of the Uralvagonzavod Research and Production Corporation, has told TASS. "The tests of the Koalitsiya-SV proceed as planned. A chart of tests has been drawn up… Everything goes according to the approved plan, without lags," Romanovsky said.

He didn’t specify the tests completion date. "The contents of work and its completion date are to be learned from the customer," Romanovsky explained.

According to him, the new Russian self-propelled artillery system outperforms not only domestic predecessors, but "in some aspects" Germany’s Panzerhaubitze 2000, which experts often call the world’s best self-propelled artillery system. However, Romanovsky did not specify the parameters by which the combat vehicles were compared. It’s noteworthy that previously the Russian Defense Ministry asserted that the Koalitsiya-SV outperforms the Panzerhaubitze 2000 by a factor of 2.5-3, also without disclosing the parameters under consideration. It was previously reported that the firing range of Koalitsiya-SV using modernized rounds grows up to 70 km. The ammunition supply of the Russian weapon also is superior to that of Western counterparts.

Romanovsky said that Uralvagonzavod continues to overhaul and upgrade the existing artillery systems and to develop innovative types. According to him, the in-depth modernized 2S19 Msta-SM SPAS has received essentially new capabilities in terms of firing accuracy and crew comfort.

The adviser to the head of Uralvagonzavod is certain that the emergence of attack drones and other weapons does not erode the role of artillery. "The artillery can operate at any time in any place, in all weathers and all combat theaters. Today the operational capabilities of artillery have grown considerably, primarily in terms of firing range, accuracy and maneuverability. Talking straight, its other important advantage is low cost, since artillery is the cheapest way of delivering fire today," he told the agency.

The 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV self-propelled artillery system is designed to replace the 2S19 Msta-S weapon. It is expected that it will use a new 152 mm separate loading round. Mounted on top of the combat cabin is a remotely controlled fighting module with a 12.7 mm machinegun and 902B Tucha smoke dischargers fitted on the sides. The 2S35 example demonstrated in May 2015, had been installed on the T-72/90 chassis. However, it is planned to subsequently put it on the Armata platform. All the crew operations are shown on the integrated control system displays. The pneumatic loading mechanism increases the 2S35 firing rate. The Koalitsiya-SV can automatically select the type of the round and fire.
