UK and France signed a new defence deal
A new agreement was signed today between the United Kingdom and France. The French Defence Minister arrived in London, on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the Lancaster House Agreement, which was signed on 2 November 2010. The new deal, falling under the agreement, opens the way for new generations of missiles.

The latest deal allows the exchange of certain technologies, which will be used in the development of the next generations of missiles, developed by MBDA. The future designs will meet the French and British requirements well ahead of the next decade. An example of such an initiative, is the helicopter-launched, anti-ship Sea Venom missile programme. With the latest agreement, the two countries will work closely on the exchange of information on MBDA’s technologies. It will also provide the necessary legal assurance to both governments on issues related to national data protection and supply security.

The Lancaster House Agreement was signed in 2010. It contained two treaties, on defence and security and on nuclear cooperation. It paved the way for a series of joint actions, such as training and exchange of military personnel, cooperation on missile systems, on the Future Combat Air System and other.

Further to the joint missile projects, the two ministers not only re-affirmed the closer bilateral relations but they also reviewed the importance of the Griffin Strike exercise, which will take place in April 2016; their countries’ work on the safety of nuclear weapons and areas of future cooperation, such as in counter-terrorism, cyber-security and Special Forces.
