"Budget funds that will be allocated for defense contractors in the Tula Region through 2020 will equal more than 20 billion rubles. The funds will be allocated annually in accordance with the state contracts," Andrianov said.

The main federal funding sources are specified in the 2011-2020 state armament program and federal target programs.

The major defense contractors, i.e. the Shipunov Instrument-Making Design Bureau, Splav Company and Strela Enterprise, are the main drivers of the growth of the Tula Region’s defense industry.

"Defense contractors in the Tula Region specialize in developing weapons for the Russian Armed Forces and for export," Andrianov said.

According to him, the talk is about the Pantsyr-S1 (NATO reporting name: SA-22 Greyhound) antiaircraft missile/gun system that was made operational with the Russian Armed Forces in 2012 and the Grad, Uragan and Smerch multiple launch rocket systems.

The state defense order also envisages the production of the Zoopark, Fara and Aistyonok radars in service with the Russian Armed Forces.

According to the first deputy governor, the enterprises’ smooth work enables them to pay more taxes, which brings a considerable part of incomes to the Tula Region’s budget.

As it was reported earlier, the volume of state defense orders placed with defense contractors in the Tula Region has grown by 80% in 2016, year-on-year.

As of today, there are 25 defense contractors in the Tula Region, including such major enterprises as the Shipunov Instrument-Making Design Bureau, Splav Company, Tula Arms Plant, Tula Machine-Building Plant and Strela Enterprise.
