On 22 October, the Bulgarian Ministry of Defence announced that the special forces of the nine member states participating in the Bucharest 9 Initiative (B9) started the multinational military drill “Thracian Sword – 2018” at the Novo Selo Training Area. This year, Bulgarian special forces are hosting the annual B9 exercise from 22 to 26 October.

Russia`s National Guard (Rosgvardiya) has adopted the Tor protective helmet developed by the NPP KlASS company, an industrial source told TASS at the Interpolitex 2018 international defense show being held in Moscow from October 23-26. The volume of the deliveries is not specified.

AM General has received an order to provide 740 new M1152A1 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV) to the U.S. Army National Guard as a part of their modernization initiatives valued at $89 million. The M1152A1 is the single cab with open cargo area HMMWV variant that is enhanced with Integrated Armor Protection and can serve as a troop or cargo transport vehicle. Delivery of the new M1152A1 HMMWVs will begin in the second quarter of 2019.

Acceptance trials of the prototypes of self-propelled antitank gun 2S25M Sprut-SDM1 produced by the tractor plant in Volgograd for the airborne troops will begin in December, Airborne Commander Colonel-General Andrey Serdyukov said. "Acceptance trials of the vehicle which we are waiting for will take place in December. They will take place next year and we expect the vehicle to be supplied in 2020," he added.

“The Marine Corps has the capability to set up Forward Arming and Refueling Points. The Indonesian PT Karya Tugas Anda company (now operating under the Tugasanda Group brand) was established in 1982 and specializes mainly in the production of buses, vans and various special vehicles on commercial chassis. The Turranga armored vehicle is the first military development of the company, and after the success in selling the aircraft to the Indonesian Air Force, the company expects to continue its sales both to the Indonesian military and security forces, and for export to other ASEAN countries.

On 18 October, ten years after it declared independence from Serbia, Kosovo started to implement the creation of an army. The parliament passed three bills laying the groundwork for transforming the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) — an emergency force trained to respond to disasters — into a 5,000-strong regular army with 3,000 reservists. The ethnic Serb minority and Serbia itself qualify this a clear threat to peace from the ethnic Albanian-led government.

Last 15 October, China-based Guangdong Hongda Blasting Company claimed that it had successfully tested a new supersonic cruise missile not intended for the PLA but for export, as reported by The Diplomat. Guangdong Hongda Blasting Company has not designed and manufactured missiles prior to the HD-1. Total company investment into the HD-1 program has been $188 million, according to Hongda.

The Bavar-373, Iran’s indigenous long-range air defense missile system, is equipped with vertical launching systems (VLS). The is undergoing complicated tests, a military official said, reported by Tasnim, adding that efforts are underway to bring it into service by the end of the current Iranian year (March 2019).

On 15 October, Newcon Optik announced that it has been awarded an important Canadian Department of National Defence (DND) supply contract for its state-of-the-art handheld LRM 3500M laser rangefinder monocular. In June 2016, FNSS Savunma Sistemleri has been awarded a contract by the Turkish Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) to supply 260 antitank vehicles (ATV). Hence the testing of the new Pars 4x4 wheeled and Kaplan tracked ATVs. The contract includes two different vehicles: 76 Pars 4x4 and 184 Kaplan tracked vehicles. These figures include prototypes of each used for qualification tests.

According to the combat training plan for 2018, the air defense units of Azerbaijan's army conducted tactical exercises in various firing ranges, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan said in a message on October 17. In the course of the exercises the air defense units fire-tested the 9K33 Osa anti-aircraft missile system.
