Raytheon and the U.S. Army completed development of a revolutionary capability for cannon artillery by upgrading the combat-proven Excalibur precision-guided projectile. The Excalibur Shaped Trajectory, or EST, variant will enable soldiers to eliminate targets in hard-to-reach locations by selecting the projectile's terminal or final phase attack angle.

The Bumerang infantry fighting vehicle may be equipped with the Kinzhal module armed with a 57-mm gun and the Ataka anti-tank missiles. Bumerang’s cargo lifting capacity and power-to-weight ratio make it suitable for the installation of the Kinzhal combat module.

The Commonwealth has selected Indra Australia to design and manufacture a Level 2 deployable forensic laboratory capability that is being procured under Project LAND 154 Phase 2 for AUD 36M. The system will be used primarily by the Australian Army to provide a forensic support capability for a range of roles including Counter Improvised Explosive Devices (CIED).

German Company Rheinmetall announces a contract on October 8, 2018, for the delivery of components for manufacturing Fuchs/Fox 6x6 armored vehicles for an international customer. The order is worth a figure in the three-digit million euro range. Delivery of the components will take place during the 2019-2020 timeframe. This contract has special significance for Rheinmetall’s Kassel plant, birthplace of the battle-tested 6x6 vehicle.

FLIR Systems has announced the FLIR Black Hornet Vehicle Reconnaissance System (VRS), featuring the Black Hornet 3 nano-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The Black Hornet VRS is based on an adaption of the Black Hornet Personal Reconnaissance System (PRS), the world’s smallest combat-proven nano-unmanned aerial system (UAS). Black Hornet VRS enables operation from inside a vehicle.

Taiwanese-manufactured weapons such as lightweight rocket launchers will complement heavy weapons bought from the US. The Marine Corps of the Taiwanese Army, the island’s military police and the coast guard are all considering placing large orders for weapons produced in Taiwan, as reported by the Asia Times.

Soldiers from 165 Port and Maritime Regiment Royal Logistic Corps have recently been on Ex Mulbery Leader 2, an Annual Deployment Exercise. One part of the exercise saw reservists at Browndown Beach, Southampton preparing the beach for the Mexeflote powered raft to approach and off-load/load vehicles. For many of the reservists involved this was the first time they had used the platform to move vehicles between the beach and a “Roll On-Roll Off ferry” anchored in the Solent.

The Canadian Department of National Defence recently took delivery of its first Medium Support Vehicle System (MSVS) Standard Military Pattern (SMP) trucks from Mack Defense. The trucks were handed over during a special ceremony at the Canadian Forces base in Petawawa, Ontario. Vehicles and other equipment for a new U.S. unit on a 9-month rotational mission will arrive in South Korea next week, the U.S. 8th Army has announced. The equipment from the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Armored Division based at Fort Bliss, Texas, will arrive at the port of Busan, 450 kilometers south of Seoul, as reported by Yonhap News Agency.

The U.S. Marine Corps Systems Command will assess the systems to ensure they are compatible with Marine Corps radios and the Marine Corps Enhanced Combat Helmet, or ECH. Systems can be circumaural or intra-aural but must include versions that are both communications enabled and versions that are not communications enabled. Program Manager Infantry Combat Equipment at MCSC is considering options to purchase between 7,000 and 65,000 hearing enhancement devices within the next three years to be used in addition with the current Combat Arms Earplugs Marines wear. Russia’s Tecmash defense enterprise (part of the Rostec state corporation) is about to present its project of an advanced small-caliber multiple launch rocket system, Tecmash Deputy Director General Alexander Kochkin has told TASS. "We have drafted a blueprint of this system and will submit this proposal to the Defense Ministry soon," he said.

This is the first deployment of the expanded Marine Corps rotational presence of approximately 700 Marines in Norway, which was announced by the Government of Norway in August. The expanded rotational presence was marked by a transfer-of-authority ceremony today in Setermoen, Norway, presided over by Maj. Gen. Russell A.C. Sanborn, commanding general of U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe and Africa.

On 1st October, the IRGC Aerospace Force used 7 drones as well as 6 ballistic missiles to destroy targets in the Albu Kamal region, in Eastern Syria, FarsNews reports. At least one of the drones was of a Saeqeh model which is an UAV of the Simorgh (Phoenix) class and enjoys the capability to simultaneously strike at four targets with smart bombs that have pinpoint precision-striking capability in far distances. Iran calls “Simorgh” its own version of the US RQ-170 Sentinel.
