EIZO Rugged Solutions Announces Rugged H.265 (HEVC) Video Encoder with Dual 3G-SDI Inputs
EIZO Rugged Solutions Inc. (formerly Tech Source, Inc.) has been developing graphics and video solutions for air traffic control, military, and embedded applications for over 28 years. EIZO has introduced the Tyton VS2 – a low-latency, high-efficiency rugged H.265 (HEVC) video encoder with dual 3G-SDI inputs. The Tyton VS2 is a ruggedized small form factor box-level video encoding and streaming solution designed to serve video transmission needs in harsh field environments.

The MIL-STD-810G and IP67 compliant Tyton VS2 is capableof capturing two 3G-SDI inputs simultaneously and encoding them using the highly versatile H.265 (HEVC) or H.264 (AVC) video encoding standards. Both video inputs can be internally split and routed to each of the product’s eight built-in dynamic encoding engines (1080p60 encoding utilizes two engines and HD utilizes a single engine); each individually configurable to different bitrates. This is very useful in mission applications where each incoming video signal can utilize a high bitrate encoding for local recording and viewing, while a second low bitrate encoding serves downlink transfers over an RF link.

Each of the Tyton VS2’s eight dynamic encoding cores can individually be configured to encode to H.264 or H.265 standards using software API settings, allowing true future proofing of existing installations looking to utilize H.265 in the future. The Tyton VS2 also features an internal video (3G-SDI) bypass and overcomes the need for an external video splitter.

Selwyn L. Henriques, president and CEO of EIZO Rugged Solutions, commented, “The Tyton VS2 and its support for H.265encoding shows our commitment to bringing cutting-edge technology to the rugged market. With the latest H.265 encoding, the Tyton VS2 offers improved video quality and over a 50% reduction in the required bitrate than competing solutions.”

The TytonVS2 features a hardware implementation of CoT (Cursor on Target) and KLV (Key Length Value) metadata insertion. Control of encoding settings and retrieval of Tyton VS2 health information are all performed using an API built around SNMP for simple and secure communication. LED indicators on the front provide visual health of the unit and connections.

It is also operating system-independent, hardware agnostic, stand-alone and highly efficient with low power consumption. All configuration is done over an Ethernet connection using SNMP, allowing any operating system to integrate successfully with the unit. A built-in web-based GUI interface – accessible from a networked browser – can also be used for device settings configuration. This also supports the uploading of XML configuration files for a quick and seamless configuration of deployable units.
