ShieldAfrica 2017: Corvus Slovakia now offers the Tigr armored vehicle for the foreign market
The Slovakia-based defense contractor Corvus has been authorized to license-produce and market the Tigr VPK-233136 multipurpose armored vehicle, Army Recognition learned at this 4th edition of ShieldAfrica international defense and security exhibition.

This high-mobility multipurpose military vehicle, originally manufactured by the Russian Military-Industrial Company LLC (BMK), was shown for the first time at IDEX defense and security exhibition in 2001.

According to TASS, Slovakia received a first batch of Tigr vehicles, which is the police version. Besides Slovakia and Russia, the vehicle has also been delivered to i.a. Armenia, Belarus, and Congo.

The Tigr was officially taken into service at the end of 2006 in the Russian Armed Forces and manufactured in 2007. The vehicle is intended to carry and protect personnel. It can accommodate up to 10 officers armed and in full gear. The vehicle has been field- and combat-tested before being sent to serve with OMON (Special Purpose Police Unit).

The Tigr can be armed with light machine gun or grenade launcher. Hatches and brackets for installation of 7.62mm Pecheneg machinegun and 30mm AGS-17 grenade launchers are mounted on the vehicle’s roof. It is powered by a YaMZ-53472-10 engine, allowing a top speed of 110 km/h.

The special armored vehicle Tigr VPK-233136 offers a Level 5 ballistic protection according to GOST R 50963-96, and bulletproof windows with loopholes on side windows.
