ShieldAfrica 2019: Elistair Orions UAS for security and military missions

French Company Elistair offers aerial solutions to perform surveillance and communications with its ORION UAS (Unmanned Aerial System). Connected to the ground by a micro-tether, the Orion UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) can fly over dedicated zones without any time limit thanks to the power provided from ground source.

At ShieldAfrica 2019, the International Defense and Security Exhibition in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, Elistair has demonstrated its capacity to offer observation and surveillance solution using Orion UAS that can reduced cost compared to flight time of helicopter by carrying out similar missions.

With the ORION UAS (Unmanned Aerial System), military and security forces will have a standalone observation and surveillance solution which can be easily and quickly deployed. The Orion is equipped with a gyro-stabilized multi-sensor full HD camera with day-light optical zoom x30 and an infrared camera.

The Orion UAS has been specifically designed for endurance and for operating by day or night in variable weather conditions during many days. For security forces it can be used to control event, for crowd control and traffic monitoring while for military forces it can be deployed to perform force protection and deployable communication system for ISR Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions.

The design of the ORION UAS is based on six removable rotor arms with a pair of rotor blades each mounted on a rotating support mast. The system is transportable and can be easily disassembled and stored in a compact case. In case of emergency, the ORION UAS is equipped with a parachute.

The ORION UAS don't required any pilot, the system is connected to a Safe-T tethering station offering data connection and power transfer between the UAV and ground station. The video surveillance images can be transmitted to the ground station but also to a control room offering current station in real-time and allow military of security forces to take actions or appropriate measures according to the threats.

The ORION UAS can be operated to a maximum altitude of 80 m and cameras can detect and track a moving person or object over a distance of 10 km and on 300 square kilometer. Onboard GPS (Global Positioning System), global satellite navigation system (GLONASS) or Beidou navigation satellite system (BDS) offers navigation and real-time positioning.
