Russia plans to develop T-17 tank destroyer based on Armata tank platform

According to a drawing published on Internet, Russia plans to develop the T-17, an anti-tank tracked armored vehicle based on the Armata MBT (Main Battle tank) platform. The vehicle could be replaced the BMP-3 KHRIZANTEMA-S, an anti-tank vehicle based on the BMP-3 chassis.

The T-17 will be based on the Armata platform using the same chassis and hull. The turret has been removed from the original T-14 Armata main battle tank. As for the T-14, There are three hatches at the front of the hull, with the driver position in the left, the gunner in the middle, and the tank commander at the right.

The front and the side of the T-17 are covered with explosive reactive armor (ERA). Reactive armor is a type of vehicle armor that reacts in some way to the impact of a weapon to reduce the damage done to the vehicle being protected. It is most effective in protecting against shaped charges and specially hardened kinetic energy penetrators. The most common type is explosive reactive armor (ERA), but variants include self-limiting explosive reactive armor (SLERA), non-energetic reactive armor (NERA), non-explosive reactive armor (NxRA), and electric reactive armor.

The rear of the vehicle will be equipped with an elevated arm that can carry anti-tank missile launchers. In the road position, the weapon system can be stored inside the vehicle. The hatch locates on the right side at the front of the hull seems to be fitted with optics to control the firing operations. There is also a remotely operated weapon station that can be armed with a 7.62mm or a 12.7mm machine gun.

As for the BMP-3 Khrizantema, we can assume that the new T-17 anti-tank armored vehicle will have automatic loading systems thanks to the use of an internal magazine.

The suspension will have only six road wheels while the T-14 Armata has seven road wheels.
