AMX-10RCR

Upgraded 6x6 wheeled reconnaissance anti-tank armored vehicle - France

AMX 10RCR 6x6 wheeled reconnaissance anti tank armored vehicle France 925 001

Description

The AMX-10RCR is an upgraded version of the standard AMX-10RC reconnaissance and anti-tank 6x6 armored vehicle. The AMX-10RCR is being carried out in the three traditional key areas of armor (or survivability), mobility, and firepower, plus digitalization. In December 2000, the French Army awarded a contract to Nexter Systems for the upgrade of 256 AMX-10RC vehicles named AMX-10RCR. Nexter Systems offers a complete set of upgrade kits aimed at improving the operational and maintainability capabilities of AMX-10RCs currently in service with the French Army. When fitted with such kits, the AMX-10RC turns into a reconnaissance and anti-tank vehicle, the tactical capabilities of which keep up those of the most modern armored vehicles falling within its weight range, able to fit into the system of the future forces. These modular upgrade kits, which can be integrated into a simple 3rd echelon-like infrastructure, enable customers to upgrade their equipment according to their specific requirements. In 2003, the French Army will take delivery of the first Nexter AMX-10RC (6×6) armored vehicles that have been upgraded to extend their lives for a further 15 years until the projected Engin Blinde a Roues de Contact (EBRC) enters service. Deliveries of the first upgraded vehicles began in 2005 and the 100th upgraded vehicle was delivered in February 2008. Final deliveries were concluded in 2010. The upgrade will maintain the operational capability of the vehicles until 2020/2025. The first operational deployment of the AMX-10RCR was in Cote d’Ivoire with the French Foreign Legion in 2006. The vehicle was also deployed in Afghanistan and Mali for combat missions. . It is also air transportable in a C-130, IL-76 or Boeing 747 aircraft. According to our source, the Ukrainian army will receive 30 AMX-10RCR.

Technical Data

Armament
The AMX-10RCR uses the same armament as the AMX-10RC. The main armament is a Giat Industries 105 mm F2 semi-automatic gun with a vertical wedge breech block and a barrel with a thermal jacket and a two-stage muzzle brake. The AMX-10RCR can fire a new High Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT) round. A 7.62 mm machine gun is mounted coaxially to the left of the main armament. A second 7.62 mm machine gun is mounted on the hatch of the commander. A bank of four Gallix grenade launchers is mounted to each side of the main armament, in front of the turret. This can launch a wide range of series of grenades such as smoke, anti-personnel, and decoy.
Design and protection
The layout of the AMX-10RCR is the same as the standard version of AMX-10RC. The driver is seated at the front of the hull on the left side. The turret is mounted in the center of the hull with the commander and gunner seated on the right and the loader on the left. The hull and turret of the AMX-10RCR are made with all-welded aluminum armor which provides protection for the crew against the firing of small arms and shell splinters. The AMX-10RCR is fitted with new add-on armor composed of steel plates which provide additional protection against small arms fire and anti-tank ammunition. The rear part of the turret has been extended to provide additional space for equipment.
Mobility
The AMX-10RCR uses the same 6x6 chassis as the standard AMX-10RC, but with a new gearbox and hydro-pneumatic suspension-electronic-monitoring system has been installed and the overall reliability of the transmission, transfer box, and suspension has been improved. The steering has been upgraded to take into account the latest safety regulations and asbestos in the braking system has also been removed. The AMX-10RCR has a hydro-pneumatic suspension system for high performance across the country and this is also adjustable by the driver. The vehicle can be tilted left or right or up or down, according to the tactical situation. . The AMX 10RCR can negotiate 50% gradients, 30% side slopes, 1.65m ditches, and vertical steps up to 0.8m. The vehicle can run at a maximum speed of 85 km/g with a maximum cruising range of 1,000 km/h. The upper part of the suspension is protected by armor plates.
Combat Equipment
The AMX-10RCR is equipped with an Infra-Red Counter Measure System (LIRE), mounted on the forward part of the left side of the turret that has been designed to decoy and confuses anti-tank guided missiles (ATGW) with semi-automatic command-to-line-of-sight guidance (SACLOS) system. The AMX-10RC is normally amphibious, but for the AMX-10RCR the waterjet was removed to save weight. Standard equipment of the AMX-10RCR includes also a battlefield management system (SIT V1) and an automatic listening system VOPI (Voice Over IP). SIT V1 system allows the exchange of digitalized data, including the tactical situation and graphic orders displayed on a background map, between the vehicle and the squadron command vehicle. The AMX-10RC is fitted with nuclear, chemical and biological warfare (NBC) protection with air filtering and crew compartment over-pressurization. For night vision, the commander and the gunner are equipped with a Thales DIVT 16 Castor thermal camera, which provides observation and identification to a range of 4,000m. In option, the vehicle can be equipped with an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) jamming system.
