Brazil orders Rafael Spike LR anti-guided missiles from Israel.

According to information published by the website InfoDefensa.com, under a $19 million contract, the Brazilian army has selected the Israeli company Rafael to deliver 100 units of its Spike-LR anti-tank guided missile system. The contract also includes launcher units, simulators, training, and logistic support.

According to InfoDefensa.com, the Spike could be also mounted to a modernized version of the EE-9 Cascavel, a 6x6 reconnaissance armored vehicle armed with a 90mm cannon. In March 2021, Army Recognition has reported that the Brazilian army has launched a request for information to modernize its fleet of EE-9 Cascavel 6x6 armored vehicles.

Today, the Spike missiles and launcher units are operational in more than 26 armed forces all over the world.

The Spike is a family of anti-tank guided missiles developed by the Israeli company Rafael, the Spike LR II is the latest generation of missiles in the Spike family. The Spike LR II features two unique state-of-the-art advanced and high-capable warhead configurations including a HEAT (High-Explosive Anti-Tank) warhead and a new multipurpose warhead. The new warhead can breach up to 20 cm of reinforced steel and detonate within the structure, creating immense and lethal damage to structural targets and armored vehicles.

The Spike LT II missile has high commonality to all the Spike missile families and can be launched from any Spike launcher. The ground launcher includes the new ILCU (Integrated Control Launcher Unit) and the vehicle-mounted VMLS (Vehicle Missile Launching System) configuration that can be mounted on different types of turret and weapon systems available on the current military market.

The Spike LR II has a maximum firing range of 5.5 km from the ground launcher unit.
