At Paris Air Show 2011, the Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) present a new combat helicopter, the T129. The TAI/AgustaWestland T-129 (AgustaWestland designation AW729) is an attack helicopter currently under development for the Turkish Army.

Turkish Aerospace Industries is Turkey’s centre of technology in design, development, modernization, manufacturing, integration and life cycle support of integrated aerospace systems, from fixed and rotary wing air platforms to UAVs and satellites and ranks among the top hundred global players in aerospace and defence arena.

Turkey announced on 30 March 2007 that it had decided to negotiate with AgustaWestland to purchase 51 (+40 optional) A129 helicopters. Based on the A129 International, they will be assembled in Turkey by TAI as the T-129. The deal is reported to be worth $3 billion. The final contract was signed on 7 September 2007.

The all new T129 features high power engines and uprated rotor dynamics to deliver superior “hot and high” performance which enables sustained operations in the most challenging littoral and land environments. The improved power and performance are complemented by and advanced Mission System and supporting architecture which delivers a significant weapon capability to the Battlefield Commander.

The T-129 has several key improvements over the original A129 inline with the requirements of the Turkish Army. The T-129 will carry 12 Roketsan-developed UMTAS anti-tank missiles (Turkish indigenous development similar to Hellfire II). It will use the more powerful LHTEC T800 (CTS800-4) engine.

The T-129 will feature a 20 mm Gatling style cannon on a nose turret. It will be able to carry combinations of 70 mm rocket pods, Stinger air-air missile pods, and gun pods on its stub wing pylons.
