On September 19, 2024, the German government announced a significant new military aid package to Ukraine, which includes various types of armored vehicles, air defense systems, and other military equipment. The Cheetah system, a Dutch version of the German Gepard, is equipped with an updated radar and fire control system designed to counter various aerial threats, including drones and cruise missiles. The Leopard 1A5 tanks, along with the Cheetah systems, reflect Germany's ongoing support for Ukraine's defense capabilities.

In addition to the tanks and air defense systems, the package includes 22 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAP), two TRML-4D ground surveillance radars, and several other military assets, including drones and logitics vehicles.

Germany's support extends beyond immediate military equipment; it also includes training and other resources. Since the onset of the conflict on February 24, 2022, Germany has supplied equipment from its Bundeswehr stocks with an estimated replacement value of around €5.2 billion. More than 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers have received military training in Germany, with the associated training costs amounting to approximately €282 million.

In terms of artillery support, Germany has committed to providing additional heavy weaponry, including 30 PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzers in the coming years, as well as various types of ammunition. The military aid also includes advanced unmanned systems, such as 30 Vector reconnaissance drones and over 200,000 rounds of artillery ammunition, enhancing Ukraine's capabilities on the battlefield.

Germany's contributions are part of a broader financial initiative, with approximately €7.1 billion allocated for 2024 alone. This funding supports not only direct military supplies but also includes contributions to the European Peace Facility (EPF), which assists EU member states in reimbursing expenditures related to military support for Ukraine.
