In the past weeks KMW has readapted those
tanks in close cooperation with the Canadian
Forces to a configuration that meets all
requirements for the current missions. Among

the development of a new whheled armoured vehicle, the
Protector.
Many
European countries are currently in the
process of acquiring North Charleston, SC-

current HMMWV in operational theatre during
missions and patrols in Iraq and Afghanistan,

Croatia
New wheeled armoured vehicle for Croatian Army,
finalists were Patria's AMV and GD Steyr's Pandur II.
Many
European countries are currently in the
process of acquiring wheeled armored personnel
carriers, from former East-Bloc nations
replacing their old Soviet BTRs, to NATO
countries buying lighter and less protected
equipment as replacements for their tanks,
to new European states looking for road-mobile
and affordable armor. Recent contracts in
in Europe have tended to involve competitions
between 3 key competitors: General Dynamics
subsidiaries MOWAG (Piranha) and Steyr-SSG
(Pandur), and Finland's Patria Oyj (AMV).
Croatia's finalists were Patria's AMV and
GD Steyr's Pandur II. Reportas indicate
that the Croatian Army is interested in
up to 126 vehicles, with EUR 170 million
set aside for the project. Now, there are
reports that a winner has been selected
– but a press correspondent on the
scene says it isn't so…
A Croatian media report claims that a EUR
200 million contract to deliver 126 Armoured
Vehicles to the Croatian Army has been awarded
to Patria's AMV, with the vehicles built
by Duro Dakovic special vehicles in Slavonski
Brod. The report adds that GD Steyr's Pandur
II had oil leaking problems and one punctured
tire during the tests. Press local correspondent
says the report is false. 02 August 2007
Norway
Contract was recently signed by the Director of the Norwegian
Defence to make modernisation of LEGUAN bridge.
A
9 Mio. EUR contract was recently signed by the Director
of the Norwegian Defence Procurement Agency, Brigadier
General Asle J. Kjelsberg, and KMW Managing Director,
Dr. Martin Menrath. These systems produced by KMW and
successfully in service since 1988 are scheduled to
go through a comprehensive modernisation programme that
will be specially focused on the fitment of a new electronic
control system for the laying equipment. This will keep
the Norwegian armed forces at the latest state of the
art in this capability segment and will ensure logistic
support for the bridgelayers. LEGUAN The LEGUAN bridge
has a length of 26 metres and is designed for MLC 70.
The bridgelaying operation is fully automatic and, as
for the recovery operation, requires less than 8 minutes
with the Norwegian wheeled vehicle version. The numerous
user countries of the LEGUAN, in addition to Norway,
include Finland, Singapore, Greece, Belgium, the United
States, South Africa and Spain. 02 August 2007
