missiles, the local media reported. The deal budget
is estimated at roughly $290 million. In Venezuela,
Tor-M1 missiles could be used together with the
radars of Chinese make and 24 combat aircraft
acquired in Russia. Tor-M1s are the air defense
missiles of fifth generation capable of opposing
both the planes and the cruise missiles. It is

confirmed Tuesday it has completed delivery of Tor-M1 anti-aircraft
missile systems to Iran.
Russian
arms export monopoly Rosoboronexport confirmed
Tuesday it has completed delivery of Tor-M1 anti-aircraft
missile systems to Iran under a contract. "The
[Tor-M1] systems were delivered in late December
of last year," Rosoboronexport Director General
Sergei Chemezov said. Russian Defense Minister
Sergei Ivanov first announced the completion of
the delivery last week. Russia undertook to supply
29 Tor-M1 missile systems to Iran under a $700
million contract signed at the end of 2005. The
United States protested the deal, which it feared
could bolster the military capabilities of the
Islamic Republic, classified by Washington as
a "rogue state" and part of "the
axis of evil." Russia has insisted that the
contract for the delivery of the Tor-M1 missiles
to Iran was concluded in line with international
law, and that the system is intended for defense
purposes only. 24 January 2007

The
Israel Defence Force (IDF) is set to manufacture
and procure the Namer (Tiger) heavy armoured personnel

the approval of the General Staff, but the Israeli
Ministry of Defence's (MoD's) Merkava Project
Administration (Mantak) is already preparing a
production line for the new APC. "The Namer
will close the growing manoeuvrability and survivability
gap between IDF armour, which has been constantly
receiving advance MBTs, and the infantry, in which
we have hardly invested in recent years,"
another IDF source said. "The fighting in
Lebanon demonstrated the centrality of infantry
