This group, affiliated with the Ansarul Islam organization, which has been particularly active for several months, has carried out numerous attacks against civilian populations in the Ouahigouya region and against partner forces, in particular by planting improvised explosive devices on the axes of circulation.
This group was particularly involved in the attack on Inata on November 14, 2021 during which 53 Burkinabe gendarmes were killed, and then in at least 5 other attacks against the defense and security forces, which caused more of a dozen killed and more than twenty wounded. He was also involved in the attack on a convoy of traders in Titao on January 21, 2022, during which two Burkinabè soldiers were killed.
After locating and identifying the group from various intelligence sources, a first airstrike was carried out near the camp. A group of commandos, supported by an attack helicopter, was then dropped to the ground to reconnoiter and search the camp.
From the start of the reconnaissance of the camp, the group of commandos was attacked by a dozen terrorists in ambush, who were neutralized with the support of the attack helicopter after heavy fighting. During the search of the area, the group of commandos assessed the neutralization of 10 terrorists. A large number of weapons, explosives, mortars, and shells were also seized.
