Russian servicemen receive new Ratnik combat gear


About 2,000 servicemen of the Central Military District (TsVO) deployed in the Samara and Orenburg regions have received a new Ratnik combat gear, the Central Military District said.

The Ratnik is a new-generation combat outfit. It is part of a project designed to improve the capability of each individual soldier on the battlefield by applying the newest scientific achievements in the field of navigation, night vision systems, the monitoring of the psychological and physiological state of servicemen as well as the use of new materials in the production of armor and clothes tissues. The Ratnik gear is a system of modern protective and communication devices, weapons and ammunition. It consists of a helmet, a body armor; a one-piece coverall; hearing protection gear; protective glasses; a protective set for knees and elbows; a grenade launcher, submachine gun or assault rifle; sniper rifle, ammunition; a combat knife as well as 24/7 reconnaissance means; a day and night sighting system; a small-size binocular; optical and thermal weapon sights, etc.

All in all, Ratnik has 59 protection, destruction, life-support and power supply elements as well as reconnaissance, control and communication devices. Besides, the outfit comprises a universal shelter, a multifunctional knife, a signal lamp, a watch, winter and summer two-side camouflage sets; an autonomous heat source; a backpack, an individual water filter; a small army banjo, breath protection devices; means of radiological and chemical control; a medical kit and filtering clothes.
