KMW is responsible for the design and the welding of the cabs as well as their assembly, which also includes the electrical equipment. The first 224 cabins will be completed by 2024. The integration of all 1048 systems will be finalized in 2029.

In January 2021, the Bundeswehr - represented by the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) - awarded Iveco Defense Vehicles a framework contract for the delivery of up to 1,048 military Trakker trucks, which will be delivered between 2021 and 2028.

It starts with a first batch of 224 units. These tactical 8x8 military vehicles of the Trakker series from Iveco Defense come in five different configurations and are suitable for the transport of 20-inch ISO containers. Some of the vehicles are also equipped with hydraulic cranes and winch systems, setting a new standard within the GTF family of the Bundeswehr.

All vehicles meet the latest EURO VI emissions standard, are suitable for single-fuel operation and have a protected driver's cab of the highest quality. The protection relates to ballistic effects as well as those triggered by mines as well as IED and NBC protection. These cabs also offer a high level of comfort for the crew and are designed to accommodate a large number of modern military communication and command systems.

In recent years, Iveco Defense Vehicles has delivered around 2,000 vehicles from its wide range of products to the German Armed Forces, which have already demonstrated their operational capability on a large scale. This also includes protected special designs such as GTF-8x8 lot 1 and 2, TEP-90, STW-8x8, Kipper-8x8, side loader-8x8, ISO-Container-Transport-8x8 and tractor unit-6x6.

KMW is a world market leader in the field of highly protected driver’s cabs. In addition to the Bundeswehr, users of the safety cells – an inhouse development – include the British, Swiss and Norwegian armed forces. To date, KMW has supplied comprehensive protective equipment for more than 700 cabs of various truck manufacturers.
