Currently, India has already received two S-400 regiments and the second was delivered in February 2022. The third regiment is likely to be deployed in the north of the country.

India announced its plans to purchase Russian-made S-400 systems in 2015. The relevant contract worth 5.43 billion dollars for the delivery of five regiment sets was signed during a visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India in October 2018.

In January 2022, India started the deployment of the first regiment of the Russian S-400 air defense missile system. It was reported that the first S-400 regiment set would be deployed on the territory of India’s Punjab state on the western border with Pakistan.

Despite the war in Ukraine, the Russian defense industry continues to produce a large number of weapons, combat vehicles, and military equipment for national use and international customers.

The S-400 is the latest generation of Russian-made air defense missile systems that entered into service with the Russian armed forces in April 2007. The system is considered as one of the most modern air defense systems currently available on the modern military market.

The S-400 can engage all types of aerial targets including aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), ballistic and cruise missiles at a maximum range of 400 km and an altitude of up to 30km. The system can track 100 airborne targets and engage six of them simultaneously.
