Lithuania delivers to Ukraine 155mm ammunition and 2 repaired PzH 2000 howitzers


The Ministry of Defense of Lithuania announced on December 3, 2022, that two German-made PzH 2000 155mm self-propelled howitzers were taken to Ukraine after undergoing repair in Lithuania, as well as part of the transferred 155mm artillery ammunition.

In September 2022, the Ministry of National Defence of the Republic of Lithuania announced the launch of a repair center for the PzH 2000 155mm self-propelled howitzer in service with the Ukrainian armed forces. A 12,000 sqm maintenance and logistics center was created in Lithuania in June 2022 by Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann.

The PzH 2000 is also in service with the Lithuanian army which offers the advantage of knowing the artillery and providing quickly spare parts. Currently, the Lituania armed forces have a total of 21 PzH 2000 and Ukraine has received 14 Pzh from Germany and five from the Netherlands.

The 155 mm ammunition that Lithuania delivers is especially necessary for the Armed Forces of Ukraine in its fight. The decision to transfer ammunition of such caliber was taken in the lasts National Defence Council.

Ukraine had received the two repaired howitzers with software from Germany and the Netherlands. It cost Lithuania nearly EUR 2 million to repair the howitzers and integrate their software into the ammunition matrix.

To date, the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence has supplied Ukraine with military assistance in the form of different weapons, ammunition, thermo-imaging equipment, UAVs, drone jammers, personnel training, and every other kind of assistance that matched the requirement Ukraine voices.
