In January 2021, Army Recognition has released news to announce that Kenya’s Department of Defense has cleared the procurement of 118 Hizir armored personnel carriers from Turkey at a price of nearly $70 million.

Kenya is the third country that will acquire Katmerciler armored vehicles. According to the company, Katmerciler exported a total of 989 vehicles and related equipment around the world last year.

Founded in 1985, Katmerciler has taken its first steps towards entry into the Turkish Defense Industry with the Anti-Riot Vehicles (TOMA) that has been produced since 2010. Ballistic-reinforced, 4x4 Tactical Wheeled Armored Personnel Carriers, designed and developed at their own R & D Center, in line with NATO standards, have become a strong solution partner and supplier to the Defense and Security industry, along with other vehicles that meet the different requirements of the Armed Forces and Security Forces

The HIZIR is a 4x4 armored vehicle fully designed and manufactured by the Turkish company Katmerciler. The vehicle was unveiled in November 2016 during the International Defense Exhibition Hight Tech Port in Turkey.

The HIZIR is designed on a V-hull monocoque chassis to increase vehicle and crew survivability by deflecting an upward directed blast from a landmine or IEDs (Improvised Explosive Device) away from the vehicle. It can carry a total of 9 military personnel with the driver and commander at the front and 7 people at the rear on individual seats. There are 4 side doors (2 on each side) and one rear door.
