The Slovenian Ministry of Defence has awarded sole bidder EuroSpike a €6.67 million ($6.6 million) contract to supply 50 Spike LR2 Long-range Anti-tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs), the launchers being to mount of Oshkosh Defense JLTVs. The contract was officially announced on the EU tenders database on 6 September, although it was awarded on 29 July.

The Spike has been in use with the Slovenian Armed Forces since 2009. Its LR2 version characterized by extended range and beyond-line-of-sight will increase the system’s efficiency. Similarly to all other Spike launchers, the integration of the Spike LR missile to the Kongsberg Protector Remote Weapon Station includes a provision for Spike LR2, a fifth-generation multipurpose missile, equipped with improved engagement ranges of up to 5.5 km, with reduced weight (13.4 kg), enhanced lethality, advanced target recognition and tracking, and a new third-party target allocation (network-enabled) enhancement with an embedded inertial measurement unit (IMU) assembly.

In October 2018, the Slovenian Ministry of Defense signed an inter-governmental Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) with the U.S. Government for the purchase of 38 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV). In December 2020, the Slovenian Armed Forces successfully test-fired Spike LR missiles from a Kongsberg Protector remote weapon station mounted on JLTV. All 38 JLTVs will be equipped with Protector RWS.
