The new Hungarian-made Komondor military wheeled armoured vehicles introduced by the Gamma Technical Corporation and the Hungarian Defence Industry Association on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, will be used by the military, catastrophe relief services, border protection authorities, as well as counter-terror and police forces.

The RDO-3921 KOMONDOR is the first light-armoured military vehicle developed in Hungary for almost four decades, Attila Zsitnyányi, head of the Hungarian Defence Industry Association and chairman of Gamma.

Currently, four versions of the vehicle was presented, Wednesday, October 14, 2015, including a 4x4 armoured ambulance and a 6x6 light armoured vehicle.

Prototypes of the two military vehicles were built over the past four years with input from ninety Hungarian companies employing 280 members of staff, including 79 engineers, Mr. Zsitnyányi revealed.

The Komondor RDO-3921 is the 4x4 version of the Komondor vehicle family. It is powered by a 340 HP common rail, turbocharged diesel engine. The drive line consists of a six gear automatic gearbox, three speed transfer case and independent suspension systems. The hull of theKomondor is of all-welded steel armour construction that provides the occupants with protection against small arms fire including inner liners and add-on armour which can provide up to L3 ballistic protection according to NATO STANDARD 4569. The mine blast protection is L2a/3b. In option, the vehicle can be fitted with central tyre inflation and run-flat systems.

The armoured personal carrier version uf the Komondor can carry 2 + 8 people and their equipment. A small turret can be fitted on the roof of the crew compartment which can be armed with a full range of weapon systems. The vehicle is also equipped with an overpressurized NBC protection systems. Inside the vehicle, anti-blast seats prevent injury from the extreme acceleration of a side blast or a mine blast under the hull.

The Komondor RDO-3932 Light Armoured Base Vehicle is the longest, 6x6 version of the Komondor vehicle family. It is powered by 450HP common rail, turbo charged diesel engine from which the power goes to the wheels through the six gear automatic transfer case, three speed transfer case and independent suspension system. It has the same protection level as all members of the family (up to L3 ballistic and 2a/3b mine blast according to NATO STANAG 4569).

The vehicle has a crew 2+3 crew. The half body structure provides wide range of possible variants. It could be used, for example, as logistic, weapon carrier, special platform or recovery vehicle. It can carry 9000 kg load.

The Komondor RDO-3932 REC is a special technical recovery version of the RDO-3932 Komondor Base Vehicle. Besides the protective and mobility features of the base vehicle, it has a special interchangable platform which enables to provide technical support for any vehicle of the family if they have problems. The extended towing capacity allows to tow up to 35.000 kg.

On the platform there is a 40 tonne hydraulic winch, a vehicle lift-up system which provides 10 ton lifting capability, and equipped with a mobile crane which can help in any maintenance work. There is space for four technicians and a driver, and spacious storage room for tools and spare parts.
