Despite the delivery of weapons and military equipment from the U.S. and Europe, the Ukrainian armed forces continue to involve local-made products and especially artillery systems to fight Russian armed forces. These last weeks, the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has requested more long-range artillery and ammunition, and both Russian and NATO caliber types to accompany them.

France, Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Belgium and Italy are now ready to provide Ukraine with mobile 155mm artillery systems in wheeled or tracked configuration to counter Russian armed forces which have a great tactical advantage in terms of artillery capabilities.

The 2S22 Bohdana is a 155mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer that was fully designed and developed in Ukraine according to NATO standards including the gun control system and the truck carrier. This artillery vehicle was unveiled for the first time during a military parade in August 2018.

The 2S22 Bohdana is based on a KrAZ 63221 6×6 high-mobility truck chassis manufactured by the Company Ukrainian AutoKrAZ. The front of the truck has an armor crew cab offering protection against firing of small arms and artillery shell splinters. The truck cabin can accommodate five crew members. It has a total weight of 28,000 kg.

The main armament of the 2S22 Bohdana consists of one 155mm NATO standard cannon mounted at the rear of the truck chassis, able to fire High-explosive incendiary/armor-piercing ammunition (HEIAP) at a range from 35 to 40 km and Rocket assisted projectile (RAP) with a range from 45 to 60 km. It has a maximum rate of fire of 6 rounds per minute. The truck can carry a total of 20 round of ammunition and associated charges stored in boxes located on each side of the truck chassis.
