Citing information from the Ukrainian armed forces, the shells fired from the CAESAR guns hit the Russian armored vehicles at a distance of 22,110 m and a rate of fire of 5 rounds in 55 sec.
Recently, the French Ministry of Defense announced that six CAESAR 155mm howitzers have been delivered to the Ukrainian army and that they are already used to conduct combat operations on the Ukrainian territory.
The CAESAR 155mm howitzers delivered to Ukraine are based on a 6x6 Arquus military truck chassis and are armed with a 155mm gun offering exceptional strategic and tactical mobility with unrivaled firepower. The CAESAR is fully designed, developed, and manufactured in France by the company Nexter Systems.
The design of the CAESAR consists of three main parts including the powerpack at the front, the crew cab in the middle, and the artillery weapon system at the rear. The 155 mm 52 caliber cannon mounted at the rear of the truck chassis is an upgraded version of the TRF1 155mm towed howitzer.
CAESARs' firings are accurate thanks to the use of a SAGEM SIGMA 30 onboard reference package/position data system (RP/PDS) which includes a Global Positioning System. RDB4 muzzle velocity radar is mounted over the ordnance and this feeds information to the Matra Défense Equipements & Systèmes CS 2002-G onboard fire-control computer which is located in the cab together with its printer.
The CAESAR 155mm howitzer can reach land targets at long distances with a firing range from 4.5 to 40 km, and a high level of accuracy using the LU ammunition family. It can also used be in direct firing mode with a maximum range of 2 km.
