It appears that the German-made Leopard 2 tank is causing concern within the Russian army. Indeed, based on its technical specifications and design, this tank is considered one of the best armored vehicles in the world in terms of protection, mobility, and firepower. One could compare the reputation of the German Leopard 2 tank to that of the Tiger tank used by the German army during the Second World War.

The German Tiger tank earned its reputation during the Second World War due to several factors and was considered one of the most advanced and innovative armored vehicles. It featured thick armor, a powerful engine, and advanced suspension systems, which gave it a significant advantage over many enemy tanks.

The German Leopard 2 tank, a modern main battle tank, can be compared to the Tiger tank from the Second World War in terms of their respective reputations and capabilities during their times.

Both the Leopard 2 and the Tiger tank have been highly regarded in their respective eras. The Tiger tank gained fame during World War II for its heavy armor, firepower, and fear factor, while the Leopard 2 has earned its reputation as one of the most advanced and effective tanks in the world today.

The Tiger tank was known for its thick armor, which provided excellent protection against enemy fire. The Leopard 2, on the other hand, utilizes composite armor made of steel, ceramic, and other materials, offering even greater protection against modern threats.

The Tiger tank's 88mm gun was a powerful weapon for its time, enabling it to destroy enemy tanks from a considerable distance. The Leopard 2 is equipped with a 120mm smoothbore gun, which has even greater range, accuracy, and penetration capabilities, allowing it to engage and defeat modern armored vehicles effectively.

When comparing the latest generation of German Leopard 2A6 / 2A7 and the Russian T-90M tanks, each has its own advantages and strengths; however, based on our knowledge of the Leopard 2 tank, it holds some advantages over the T-90M.

The Leopard 2 is known for its advanced composite armor, which provides excellent protection against various threats, including kinetic energy penetrators and shaped charges. The modular armor design also allows for easy upgrades and enhancements as new technologies emerge.

It's important to note that the T-90M also has its advantages and strengths, such as its advanced active protection systems and the use of advanced materials like explosive reactive armor. Each tank's performance can vary depending on the specific situation, tactics, and support available in a combat scenario.

While the T-90M has a larger caliber main gun (125mm) compared to the Leopard 2 (120mm), there are still some advantages of the Leopard 2's 120mm gun. Indeed, the Leopard 2's 120mm L/55 smoothbore gun has an advanced stabilization system and is known for its high accuracy. This allows the tank to maintain its accuracy even while moving, which can be a significant advantage in combat situations.

Despite the smaller caliber, the 120mm gun on the Leopard 2 can still achieve excellent armor penetration capabilities, especially when firing modern armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding sabot (APFSDS) rounds. The 120mm gun on the Leopard 2 typically has a longer barrel life compared to the 125mm gun on the T-90M. A longer barrel life means that the gun can fire more rounds before the barrel wears out and requires replacement, reducing maintenance costs and downtime.

It is important to note that the T-90M's 125mm gun also has its own advantages, such as the ability to fire anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) and a larger high-explosive payload. The effectiveness of each tank's main gun can also depend on various factors like ammunition quality, crew training, and tactical situations.
