According to information released by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Russian forces are reported to have lost 15 latest-generation T-90M Main Battle Tanks (MBTs) in combat in Ukraine. Based on our knowledge of the operational capabilities of the T-90 tank, it would be the greatest threat to the Leopard 2A4 / A6, Challenger 2, and M1A1 Abrams tanks that are to be delivered to the Ukrainian army.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Russian army has sent several dozen new T-72B3 and T-90M tanks to strengthen the combat capabilities of its army as well as pro-Russian forces. On March 18, 2023, the Russian Ministry of Defense also posted a video on Russian social media showing T-90M crews training to fight against the future European tanks that have been or will be delivered to the Ukrainian armed forces.

Ukrainian military representative, Senior Lieutenant Andrii Rudyk, has announced that the "invincibility" and "perfection" of the Russian T-90M tank have been exposed as a myth. According to Rudyk, the Russian Armed Forces have lost 15 T-90M units in Ukraine, revealing their vulnerability.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has confirmed these losses. Rudyk claims that the T-90M was first destroyed by a member of the Kharkiv Territorial Defense Brigade using a Swedish Carl Gustav anti-tank rocket weapon, marking the first time the "invincible" tank has been defeated during the large-scale aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

The T-90M is an upgraded version of the conventional T-90 tank developed by Russia. The T-90M includes several improvements and enhancements over the original T-90, including upgraded armor protection, improved sensors and communications systems, and a more powerful engine.

The T-90M tank is based on the layout and design of the T-72 and T-80 tanks developed by the Soviet Union. it has a crew of three personnel including the driver, the gunner, and the commander. The design of the T-90M consists of three main parts with the driver at the front center of the hull, the turret in the middle, and the engine at the rear.

The T-90M also features a new automated fire control system, which allows the tank to engage targets more quickly and accurately. The tank is also equipped with a new gunner's sight that includes a thermal imager, laser rangefinder, and ballistic computer. These features allow the T-90M to engage targets at longer ranges and in a wider variety of conditions.

In addition to its enhanced capabilities, the T-90M is also designed to be more survivable than the conventional T-90. The tank features improved composite armor and explosive reactive armor, which provide better protection against anti-tank weapons and other threats.

The T-90M tank is equipped with a 125mm smoothbore gun that can fire a variety of rounds, including armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding-sabot (APFSDS) rounds, high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) rounds, high-explosive fragmentation (HE-FRAG) rounds, and anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs). The tank can carry up to 43 rounds for its main gun. The tank is also equipped with an automatic loader, which allows for a faster rate of fire and reduces the workload of the crew. The automatic loader can reload the main gun in approximately 5-6 seconds.

T-90M tank is able to fire anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM), which allows it to engage targets at long ranges and with high accuracy. I can fire the 9M119M Refleks-M, which has a range of up to 5 km and improved penetration capabilities. The ATGM system is operated by the tank's gunner, who can use a combination of thermal imaging and laser range-finding technology to acquire and engage targets with the missiles.

The T-90M is powered by a V-92S2F diesel engine, which provides 1,250 horsepower and allows the tank to run at a maximum speed of 60 km/h on roads and 45 km/h off-road. The tank has a range of approximately 500 km on a single tank of fuel.
