According to the SIPRI (Stockholm International Peace Research Institute) Arms Trade Database, since 2015, Turkey has already delivered to Ukraine 19 Bayraktar TB-2 drones, 2 MilGem frigates, and 50 second-hand Kirpi 4x APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) vehicles, but to date, no official information mentions the delivery of Turkish-made rocket launchers.
The Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) is manufactured by the Turkish company Roketsan specializes in the design, development, and production of rockets, missiles, and defense systems. The MBRL is designed to deliver precise fire on critical targets at ranges of 10-280 km, significantly enhancing the brigade's firepower and operational flexibility.
The MBRL is a highly maneuverable fire support system that is compatible with an array of rockets and missiles, including TR-122 & TRB-122 Unguided Rockets, TRG-122, TRLG-122, TRG-230, TRLG-230, TRG-300, and KHAN Missiles. This wide range of ammunition options allows the unit to engage targets with varying levels of precision and impact, depending on the mission requirements.
A typical MBRL battery consists of several specialized vehicles designed to support the launch and maintenance of the system. These include a Command & Control Vehicle, Launching Vehicles, Ammunition Supply Vehicles, a Meteorology Vehicle, and a Maintenance & Repair Vehicle. Additional mission-specific vehicles may also be incorporated as needed to ensure smooth operation.
The battery management system of the MBRL can be seamlessly integrated with modern fire support automation, such as tactical fire direction systems, and battlefield command-control and management systems. This interoperability allows for more efficient and coordinated fire support operations. Target information can be provided to the battery by target acquisition radars or unmanned aerial vehicles, further enhancing the accuracy and effectiveness of the system.
The introduction of the MBRL system into the Ukrainian army's 49th Separate Artillery Brigade marks a significant upgrade to their artillery capabilities. The increased range, precision, and flexibility provided by the MBRL will enable the brigade to engage enemy targets and support ongoing military operations. As tensions continue to rise in the region, the deployment of this advanced fire support system serves as a strong deterrent and demonstrates Ukraine's commitment to maintaining a robust defense posture.
