On September 15, 2022, the U.S. Department of Defense announced new military assistance to Ukraine for an amount of $600 million. The list of military equipment delivered to Ukraine stated Mine clearing equipment without any details about the type of this equipment.
The picture published to the "Ukraine Weapons Tracker" Twitter account shows an American-made M113A3 tracked armored personnel carrier vehicle towing the M58 Mine Clearing Line Charge (MICLIC).
The M58 MICLIC entered into service with the U.S. Army and Marine Corps in 1988, the system consists of an M353 or M200A1 trailer chassis, a launcher assembly, an M147 firing kit, an M58A3 line charge and 127mm MK22 Mod 4 rocket.
The M58 MICLIC is a mine-clearing device used to clear a path for tanks, vehicles and personnel through minefields and other obstacles. The line charge is propelled over the minefield by an Mk22 5-inch rocket motor and detonated, clearing a one-vehicle-wide lane 100 meters long and eight meters wide. The MICLIC is effective against single-pulse, pressure-fused mines.
The M58 MICLIC is deployable in various types of climate and weather conditions. The rocket motor and linear charges can be remotely detonated either from the towing vehicle or a covered position 23 meters away. The launcher and trailer are fully reusable and can be reloaded with a new rocket motor and linear charge in 30 minutes.
