New Russian Goliath Drone by Kalashnikov Has Been Successfully Tested in Ukraine.


The Kalashnikov Group announced the successful testing of its latest unmanned aerial system, the Goliath, amid the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. Plans are underway to potentially integrate this drone into tactical security agencies' first response units to enhance combat effectiveness.

Kalashnikov confirmed the successful trials of the Goliath drone in Ukraine, highlighting its potential for future integration into tactical units within security agencies.

The Goliath is available in two transport configurations: a case containing six drones and a single-drone case, each equipped with an integrated recharging system to enable quick deployment and on-field recharging.

Kalashnikov’s new Goliath drone is designed for real-time reconnaissance missions, target acquisition, and strikes on unarmored vehicles and personnel. Weighing only 1 kg, it is optimized for continuous operations, allowing for 24/7 intelligence collection. This quadcopter model is controlled via a compact console specifically developed by Kalashnikov, facilitating rapid and intuitive operation in the field.

The Goliath also incorporates innovations specific to current combat conditions, such as an automatic return function in case of signal loss, addressing the need for resilience on the ground. The drone is easy to transport, with configurations allowing multiple units to be stored in a case with an integrated recharging system, facilitating rapid deployment.

The development of the Goliath drone by Kalashnikov is part of a strategy to enhance reconnaissance and attack capabilities for the Russian army, drawing inspiration from previous drone models, including those by ZALA Aero, a Kalashnikov subsidiary. This model was designed in response to observed operational needs, particularly for real-time reconnaissance and short-range engagements, which have proven critical in the conflict.

The Goliath’s design also includes features adapted to combat scenarios, such as an automatic return mode if communication is lost. This approach is part of a line of lightweight and cost-effective drones, designed to operate in environments where electronic countermeasures are common. The drone is also designed for easy transport, with options for multiple units in a case equipped with an integrated recharging system, enabling quick deployment.

This project reflects the Russian defense industry’s intent to bolster the use of unmanned technologies capable of operating autonomously or within a larger system network, supporting swarm tactics and electronic warfare measures to meet modern combat requirements.

These successful trials in the special military operation zone open the door to potentially integrating this drone within security forces for first-level tactical missions, thus enhancing capabilities for precise information collection and strikes on the ground. However, the extent to which this drone will be introduced, along with Russia’s production capacity, will determine its battlefield impact. While the Goliath is unlikely to be a "game-changer," as few weapons truly are, its evolution warrants close monitoring.
